The Purple Palace Orphanage

The Purple Palace Orphanage is located in Tijuana, Mexico and was specifically renovated to care for children who would otherwise be homeless and hungry. Before construction began, founders of the orphanage, Tyler and Connie Youngkin, had been renting a small warehouse to care for needy children.

Over the course of 6 months, employees from Plumbing Plus volunteered their time over the weekend to help renovate the Purple Palace Orphanage. In addition to volunteered time, Plumbing Plus ownership also paid for employees to help out during the work week. While there were numerous groups that volunteered their time and talent, Plumbing Plus created 15 bathrooms, a commercial sized kitchen and large laundry room that did not previously exist. In addition to the labor needed to complete this huge undertaking, Plumbing Plus coordinated with its vendors and donated all the materials needed to complete the kitchen, bathroom and laundry room projects.

The Purple Palace Orphanage now cares for over 100 children.

Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots began in 1947 by Major Bill Hendricks whose Los Angeles Marine Corps Reserve collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. The very next year, the Marine Corps adopted this successful program and expanded it nationwide. Today, Marines collect and distribute over 12 million toys annually and help 5.6 million needy children each year.

Plumbing Plus has adopted Toys for Tots as its official community program for the holiday season. Last year, the company split employees into 4 teams that competed in the donation of toys. The team with the most donated toys won both a pizza party and bragging rights. In total, the company donated almost 400 toys. The Toys for Tots campaign was not only a success because of the number of toys donated, but because it brought Plumbing Plus employees together for a great cause.
